Our Top Tips to getting more Shifts

Since our launch in 2019, SHFTHero has taken Sydney by storm, connecting on-demand freelancers with under-staffed businesses across Sydney and Greater Sydney. Welcoming over 3,000 users to the platform, SHFTHero has been facilitating last-minute shifts at local cafes, event companies, restaurants and bars.

Because we want YOU to put your best foot forward, and have the best possible chance of getting SHFTs, we have devised 5 Top Tips to make your SHFTHero profile stand out. And good news - getting your profile to stand out is pretty easy.

5 Top Tips to make your SHFTHero Profile Stand Out!

1. Get. A. Profile. Picture.

We can not stress this enough. To be selected for SHFTs on our platform, you must have a profile picture. When an employer is looking at your profile, they want to know how you’ll look when you’re working for them on a shift. We recommend a head shot, with good lighting and neat clothing and hair. Oh, and don’t forget to crack a smile!

2. Make sure all of your experience, skills and personal information are up to date.

With SHFTHero, there are no resumes, and no interviews. As a result, it is important that your SHFTHero profile is up to date, with relevant skills and work experience. If your profile is lacking in information, employers will most likely move onto another applicant. Let them know who you are!

3. Be creative with your personal description

Along with your relevant experience and skills, employers want to know a little bit more about you before they make their decision to hire. Your personal description allows you to do just this, and really sell yourself. What is your personality like? What are some of your achievements? What particular skill do you want employers to notice? Here are some examples of some good and bad personal descriptions.

Bad personal description:

“I have recently moved to Sydney from Melbourne. I am hard-working and have hospitality experience”

Good personal description:

“I am a passionate barista with over 6 years experience working in different cafes throughout Melbourne. I am also an experienced bartender, with over 3 years experience. I have knowledge of mixing standard cocktails. Given my experience working in busy environments, I work extremely well under pressure, whilst maintaining great attention to detail and a high standard of customer service. I take pride in my appearance, and always strive my best to represent my employer in the best way I can”.

4. Turn your push notifications on

Ding ding. It’s us. SHFTs are popping up in your area!

Given the fast-paced nature of our platform - our SHFTs are normally posted and accepted within hours. As a result, it is important that you turn push notifications ON. Don’t worry, we will not bombard you - we’ll only show you shifts that are relevant to YOU.

5. Apply for more jobs

Apply. Apply. Apply! The more SHFTs that you apply for, the more likely you are to get offers. SHFTHero has SHFTs being posted daily. Hint: Make sure your location is accurate - we’ll be showing you SHFTs that are local to you.
